The Best of Cornwall

This week we had the best of Cornwall. Is it the end of this season, or the beginning of the next one?

The past couple of weeks have seen an immense climatic shift but still have shown us the best of Cornwall.

We’ve had storms, driving rain, bitter cold wind, blazing hot sunshine, hail, sleet and everything else in between.

All before the first pasties of the day are even cooked at Charlie Choak’s too!

Yesterday at Porthgwarra a little boy was heading for a dip in the sea as I was pondering the whereabouts of my thermals, but yesterday was indeed pretty fabulous really.

However when Storm Callum hit a few weeks ago this calm and sheltered cove was a cauldron of angry foam and a wind so frightening that it was madness to step out of the car for fear of the door being ripped off.

Yesterday I noted a new huge boulder had been deposited on the south west side of the beach, defined by its colour still matching the cliff face and not those beneath. It’s a reminder to respect the elements and to stand well clear of cliffs at all times.

Our guests this week, Rick and Jayne, have been an utter delight to be with and yesterday we laughed our way across West Cornwall, finishing off the day at the magnificent Polgoon winery.

I don’t think they missed many of the wines and now Curio gins and vodkas are on their way back to Alabama, maybe for the first time.

Their stay has been a real treasure trove of “the best of the best” of Cornwall: the finest hotels, the freshest of locally sourced food prepared by Michelin starred chefs (and I’d like to say “Me”, but that would be more than a tad conceited).

However, we have been to places that only I can get them to. We have had a total blast and they have already talked about coming back next year for a fortnight, so I must be doing something right!

The 2019 House Parties on Caerhays Estate are causing quite the stir! Especially as we have private tours of Jeremy Poldark’s love: Cuby’s home and wonderful gardens at the height of their colour…. not to mention dancing! Get in touch if you are interested in joining us.

Meantime here’s a few new pics for you.
